CANCELLED: Celebrate a Century of Jazz Trumpeters with Stuart Henderson - 16th March 2022

Updated: Mar 15

Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong Stuart Henderson...

When talking to people about Twickenham Jazz Club I am often met with the comment “But I don't know anything about Jazz” and my answer is always the same: ”You don't need to 'Know' anything... Jazz is music, not an intellectual pursuit and you simply must allow yourself to feel it.” Which is not always easy in Suburbia.

A good night to 'Feel it' and also learn about one of our most wonderful instruments is to spend an evening with Stuart Henderson, a musician who simply loves his instrument and whose journey in life has always been with his beloved trumpet by his side.

Stuart has been playing the trumpet since he was a nipper, he is an expert in its history, respected as one of our finest players in the UK, and is extremely talented at bringing alive the stories of the 20th-century legendary jazz trumpet players.

Join us in a stimulating jazz journey from early New Orleans, the musical goldmine of the Swing Era to Cool Jazz, Be-Bop, Funk and Fusion.

Think of Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis and many more. There is a story in every phrase and perception, humour and passion from this once principal trumpeter of The Royal Scotts Guard who now enjoys his life as a highly respected full-time Jazz Musician.

Stuart Henderson on trumpet and flugelhorn and his brilliantly versatile band is Pete Billington - Piano/Guitar, Raph Mizraki - Double Bass & Tuba, Simon Price - Drums and we look forward to welcoming you to another colourful and memorable evening on Patchworks stage.

Best wishes,
